What you need

One board per player and one calling-card sheet. Each board has a different mix of pictures from the set, so a set of 9 or more cards gives thirty different boards.

In the classroom

• Give each child a board and counters (beans or paper scraps work). Call a word from the calling cards, or show the picture for younger classes.
• First full row wins; play on for a full board.
• Let the winner become the caller next round.

At home

• Two boards and a caller. Take turns being the caller to practice saying the words.
• Use a 3×3 board for the youngest players and 4×4 as they grow.

On your own

• Cover the board with counters, then uncover each square as you say its word aloud in the target language.

Tips

• Turn on the free space for 4×4 boards so games finish faster.
• Print boards on card stock and calling cards on plain paper.
