Flashcards
Large teaching cards or small game cards, with or without the word.
What you need
One set, printed as large cards (2 per sheet) for teaching or small cards (9 per sheet) for games. Cut along the dashed lines.
In the classroom
- Hold up a card, say the word, the class repeats. Speed up each round.
- Stick the cards on the wall and point. Children race to touch the one you name.
- Deal small cards to groups for Go Fish: ask for a card by its word.
At home
- Flash three cards, then hide one. Which one is missing?
- Slap it: spread the cards face up, call a word, first hand on it wins.
- Hide cards around the room for a word treasure hunt.
On your own
- Sort the cards into two piles: words you know and words to practice. Shrink the second pile.
- Print with the word on the back and test yourself before flipping.
Tips
- Thicker paper (160 to 200 gsm) survives small hands longer.
- Large cards are readable from the back of a classroom; small cards suit a table.
