Memory match

What you need

Pairs of small cards: picture and picture, or picture and word. Print the back-pattern sheet on the reverse so cards cannot be told apart.

In the classroom

• Lay all cards face down in a grid. Children turn two, say the words, and keep a matching pair.
• Play in small groups of three or four so everyone gets turns.

At home

• Start with six pairs and add more as memory grows.
• Say the word each time a card is turned, even when it is not a match.

On your own

• Time yourself clearing the grid, then try to beat it.

Tips

• Picture-and-word pairs turn the game into reading practice.
• Twelve pairs fill one sheet at 9 cards per page; keep sets under 15 pairs for young children.
